The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is one of the most popular English language Tests being conducted around the world. IELTS is the English language test for work, study and migration. IELTS assesses a test taker’s English language proficiency across four skills – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Delivered on either a computer or paper, IELTS is the only high-stakes language test recognized for migration across many countries.
The Occupational English Test (also known as OET) is an English language test for healthcare professionals recognised by various regulatory healthcare bodies.
It assesses the language communication skills of healthcare professionals who wish to register and practise in an English-speaking environment.

IELTS consists of four components. All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking tests. There is a choice of Reading and Writing tests according to whether a candidate is taking the Academic or General Training module.
The General Structure is:
- Writing : 2 tasks, 60 minutes
- Listening: 40 items, 30 minutes
- Reading: 40 items, 60 minutes
- Speaking: 11–14 minutes
The IELTS exam requires a minimum age of 16 years. The IELTS exam is applicable to anybody over the age of 16, regardless of nationality or background.

OET consists of four sub-tests:
- Listening (approximately 45 minutes)
- Reading (60 minutes)
- Writing (45 minutes)
- Speaking ( 20 minutes)
For each of the four sub-tests that make up OET, candidates receive a numerical
score from 0-500 in 10-point increments e.g. 350,360, 370. The numeric score is
mapped to a separate letter grade, ranging from A (highest) to E (lowest). There is
no overall grade for OET.
